Pam Rumsey in Trumansburg opened Faithful Friends Doggy Daycare about a year ago. She's been gradually building up her business (opening more days, and I think also perhaps doing some pet-sitting/boarding). I haven't been out to her facility, but I have been taking Agility classes with Pam for probably close to two years now. Her phone number is: 387-3340
Pokohaven is on Hayts Rd., which is a left off Rt. 96 about 1/2 mile past the hospital. I grew up in Ithaca and left 2 years ago to go to vet school at the University of Pennsylvania - needless to say my dogs and cat are my babies and I am absolutely insane about them. I always felt comfortable leaving my dog with Debbie at Pokohaven, and have been searching (unsuccessfully) for the same quality of care here. There is also a website for the kennel - www.pokohaven.com. It gives the basic info but I would encourage you to call or visit - they are great people out there.
Sorry for the time lapse but a friend, who fosters dogs for theSPCA, has used and likes Puppytrails in Groton.3 acres of fenced in land for them to socialize. Call 898-5583 or go to puppytrails.org/
I know of an excellent pet sitter: Joyce Roenfeldt. She lives in Berkshire and her company is called Purrfect Pets. She is a good friend and I would recommend her highly. Her phone number is 607-657-8370.
I would recommend Carol Johnson. she is a bit far (in Spencer), but the dogs have their own rooms (as opposed to Kennels which Albert hates) and their rooms open to a fenced play area outside (optional depending on the temperament of the dog and how cold it is outside). She is an excellent lady, great with dogs and reasonably priced. I paid twice as much for another sitter where Albert spent the entire two weeks in the kennel and when I showed up earlier than I was supposed to to pick him up, the woman stank of alcohol and Albert's face was not cleaned for the entire time I was gone. Albert just loves Carol and he is beaming every time he comes from her place. Here's her info:

Lucia Puorro who runs Luxury Pet Resort on Slaterville Road about two miles outside of Ithaca is just terrific. She really understands dogs and has outstanding facilities. The downside is she is almost always very busy so you have to make reservations fairly well in advance of your travels. Also, in our case (Yuki was a very spirited 1 year old when she first met Lucia) an "interview" was necessary to see if our dog would fit into the social mix at the Resort. If you want to hear more about our experiences with Lucia's operation, I'd be happy to talk to you. My number is 256 7139. Ken and Yuki
I use Around town animal care 272-2056. Sue was a vet tech at Cornell. She has been great. Becky
DO NOT use these:(based on list comments)
let me just take this time to say do NOT board your dogs at the boarding barn in lansing. i used to work there, and i quit because i couldn't stand the conditions the dogs were placed in and the mismanagement that produced them. meadowridge veterinary clinic however, which is located in the same building, is an excellent veterinary service.
