- www.freecycle.org Here is a listserve that provides, among other things, a forum for exchanging free but unneeded items that are often dog related. I have seen crates, food, leashes and even requests for foster homes and dog sitters. Look for Ithaca in the alphabetical list of groups, I think under Northeast.

- Rescuing Fly: A journey on the dog underground railroad, by Jon Katz
Comment by Alicia: This is a an interesting article and as someone who is in love with Border Collies, I am thrilled that Fly will have a much happier home. However, it is important to realize that this is NOT how rescue groups normally work! The vast majority of dogs in rescue get there because of owner placement or pulls from animal shelters. Rescued dogs are amost never stolen dogs!!! I presently have three dogs who have come through Rescue - two were owner lacements (with encouragement from a vet or humane society) and one was pulled from a shelter where she would have been destroyed. So please don't shy away from a rescue dog because you think it might have been stolen since that is almost never the case!

- www.akitarescuewny.com/indexx.htm I work with Akita Rescue of Western NY, and we *really* need help. Due to a bizarre crime (see our website: http://www.akitarescuewny.com/indexx.htm), we're handling 30 rescue dogs. This is 1/3rd of the total number of dogs we placed last year! It is the members of the Electoral College who actually vote for President and Vice President. If action were taken and evidence of wrongdoing uncovered before 13 December, the Electors have the opportunity to vote their conscience.
